Marching Band

This ensemble is comprised of students in grades 9-12.  It is the marching unit of the band and requires a commitment of time over and above the normal school day.  Members of this organization will pay a fee and purchase items such as their uniform shoes (all other uniform parts are provided), band t-shirt, etc.  Any student who is in the band program and is in grades 9-12 is REQUIRED to be in the “Spirit of Gold” unless approved by the band director. This ensemble consistently performs and wins awards at the highest level. In addition to competitive performances, this group supports the Goose Creek Gator Football team at all home games.

Wind Ensemble

This ensemble is comprised of BCA and Spirit of Gold students and is the most advanced performing group offered at Goose Creek HS. Membership is offered to any student by audition. It meets during the year on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Wind Ensemble performs grade IV-VI music.  It is STRONGLY encouraged that members own an intermediate level or professional instrument and study privately a professional (Ms. Collins will help you secure a private teacher for interested students). There will be performances in this ensemble that require additional travel and will require an additional cost. This ensemble consistently receives Superior Ratings at State Concert Festival.

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band is offered for credit during the school day.  It meets every other day for the duration of the school year.  This ensemble generally performs grade III-IV band literature and is designed to prepare students to be a successful member of the wind ensemble (membership in the wind ensemble is by audition only). This course will include performances that require travel and rehearsals beyond the school day. It is a performance-based course and grades will be issued accordingly.  There is a lab fee for the class.  All students enrolled in Concert Band must also co-register for Marching Band, unless previously approved by the directors. Private lessons are suggested for Concert Band members in order to aid in student development. Private lessons are always strongly suggested and will be of value to students who hope to move ahead in the program.

Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble is an integral part of the overall band curriculum.  Students will study a variety of musical styles which are comprised within the jazz idiom.  The study of these styles will be through performance.  Like the wind ensemble and concert band, this is a performance-based course and grades will be issued accordingly.  Students also have the option to participate in an after school jazz ensemble which will meet at the conclusion of marching season.  The jazz ensemble travels and all members are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances.  There is a lab fee for students not already enrolled in wind ensemble or concert band.  A complete schedule will be given to students.

Percussion Ensemble

All instrumentalists who play a percussion instrument are allowed to enroll in percussion ensemble.  This course meets on Monday after school for the entire school year.  Students will study and perform all aspects of percussion including marching percussion techniques, concert percussion techniques, mallet percussion and timpani.  All students will be required to participate in both Wind Ensemble and Concert Band in both the fall and spring semesters.  Members of this ensemble will be required to attend all rehearsals and performances beyond the school day, and will be responsible for the same and fees associated with the concert band/wind ensemble courses.

Color Guard

The color guard program is designed to teach students basic to advanced concepts in movement, choreography, equipment usage, and expression.  This select group will perform as members of the marching band in the fall and transition to their winter program which is independent instrumentalists at the conclusion of marching season. This course requires travel and time beyond the school day and is by audition only.
